'Strong Evidence' shows Green Tea Helps Fight Cancer Growth reports Kai Matcha

(Medical-NewsWire.com, November 15, 2012 ) BC, Canada -- New studies show that women who regularly drink green tea may have a lowered risk of particular cancers.

Of the over 69,000 Chinese women that followed by researchers for over a full decade, and who drank green tea at least three times a week, had a 14% drop in their likelihood for cancer of the digestive system.

Colon, stomach, and esophageal cancers were lowered in the group. It is not yet proven that green tea is the loan factor that promotes the drop in cancerous growth, as Green-tea lovers are often more health conscious than the general public.

Dr. Wei Zheng, senior researcher on the project, stated that he study did try to take into account the general health conscious nature of the average tea drinker.

None of the women monitored smoked or drank regularly. The researchers collected information on their lifestyle choices, including diets, exercise habits, weight, and their general medical history.

Zheng noted that even with those factors added in, there was a decreased risk of cancer in the tea-drinking women. He was quick to point out that such information taken into consideration still does not produce a basic cause-and-effect relation between the tea and sickness.

Studies have dealt with the possible connection in the past with conflicting results. Studies have been hampered by the lack of being capable of isolating the tea in regards to cancer. It is clear that only clinical studies would have to be done with random assignment tea drinking in order to truly know the correlation between tea drinking and cancer development.

Trials that have been done on a clinical level have produced inconsistent results, according to the National Cancer Institute.

Zheng’s team wrote in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition that there is “strong evidence” from research that green tea has the potential to fight cancer. The information was based upon animal testing, as well as human cell testing.
