Facial Skin Health Tips At Nepaadclub.com Launches Its Blog With Articles On Dealing With Acne

(Medical-NewsWire.com, December 02, 2012 ) Orlando, FL -- Acne problem is common to a lot of people. But despite its prevalence, the medical world has yet to discover what really causes these outbreaks. Studies towards finding the right intervention for this skin condition are continuous though and every now and then, a new method is discovered. But what does really work?

Studies were conducted to ascertain the effect of too much carbohydrate on acne outbreaks. Despite the differences in the results, Alan R. Shalita, MD, professor and chairman of the department of dermatology at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in New York says that “theoretically, people with acne may have hyperinsulinemia and foods that are low in the glycemic index (GI) may contribute to the hormonal control of acne.” “I would encourage patients with acne to moderate the amount of carbs that they eat and not to overdo dairy. There is some suggestion that dairy products may contribute to acne”. Shalita was quoted as he spoke at the American Academy of Dermatology Summer meeting in New York on the relationship between diet and acne.

For people who are looking for alternative ways of acne treatment, Amy Forman Taub, MD, medical director of Advanced Dermatology and assistant clinical professor of dermatology at Northwestern University Medical School both in Chicago has this to say, “Certain laser treatments can help with acne and acne scars, and for teenagers and people with severe acne, blue light Levulan photodynamic therapy can be an option”. “If you have mild acne and can get away with using OTC salicylic acid cleansers and benzoyl peroxide, these are still very viable treatments,” Taub adds.

Ruth, a mother of twins both suffering from severe acne, created this blog to encourage the formation of a support group. Although acne is not a life threatening illness, having this problem can affect a person’s self-esteem and confidence. She thought of helping her children and a lot of others who are in the same predicament by providing valuable information on how to handle acne, especially helpful tips and home remedies.

On whether chocolates have adverse effect on acne, a question mothers usually are faced with, Dr. Salita says,“… there is no evidence that chocolate causes acne. One study that compared Hershey chocolate bars with carob bars found no difference in acne risk. There is sugar and fat in both, so for people that do react to chocolate, it has more to do with the sugar than the cocoa.”
