(Medical-NewsWire.com, December 16, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA -- Those who live in the Araria district apparently consumer more medicine than they do food, according to new findings.
The medicine consumption within the district are about Rs 300 crore for each year. That data is based on a wholly randomized survey that was carried out by the persons associated with medicine trade in Araria.
Recently, water-born diseases hit the area's rural and town residents hard, and at least two family members from each household have some type of stomach problem that is forcing them to self-medicate. The complaints of loose motion, diarrhoea, mucus, liver disorder, jaundice, anemia, and many more serious symptoms are affecting nearly 85% of the population.
The people who are self-medicating are doing so more from the push by shop owners, rather than actual doctors orders. The consumption varies in price, but the average is now higher than the average consumption for the district.
Now, the district has become a haven for all medicine manufacturers that believe they could have any useful cure or cure-all.
An anonymous doctor stated that new medicines are introduced into the area as quack-doctors also inundate the area with their respective presence. Nearly 30 drug manufacturing companies have found their way to the small town, and experts believe that the area is likely the safest to push medicines.
The pollution within the district is 30 lakh. Araria civil surgeon Dr. B.K. Thakura stated: "It is true that most of the people suffer from waterborne diseases due to use of pesticides for growing paddy, wheat, grains and vegetable, self-medication habit, lack of education and medical awareness among the rural people."
The Araria drug inspector, Udaiballav, stated: "It is due to floods and water logging in the area, lack of education and medical awareness and infertility of the land. He also said often a large number of migrated laborers of this region come back with several diseases, which is also a contributory factor."
