(Medical-NewsWire.com, August 06, 2013 ) Hialeah, FL -- A new health trend is taking place in the United States but if you are afraid of needles, you will most likely not want to jump on the bandwagon. In order to get an immediate boost of energy health enthusiasts are receiving an intravenous drip of vitamins and electrolytes... in most circumstances. The procedure takes place at IV cafes and bars, where the IV drips are accompanied by flat-screen TVs, iPads and massage chairs.
In addition to vitamins and electrolytes, some of these facilities offer their clients a combination of nutrients, such as Vitamins B and C, magnesium or customized "cocktails." One IV establishment in Miami offers their clients an “Ultravive Recovery Infusion” consisting of Vitamin B complex, two liters of saline, an anti-nausea agent, an energy booster, multivitamins, nonnarcotic pain reliever and acid reflux medication.
Many celebrities have used these drips in private but this is the first time the procedure has gone public. Madonna has reportedly gotten vitamins via IV in the past and Rihanna once tweeted a photo of herself with an IV.
Research has claimed that vitamin infusions can help people suffering from fibromyalgia and other studies claim cancer victims may live four times longer receiving Vitamin C intravenously. However, experts have mixed views on the new trend.
Chair of the Yale Department of Emergency Medicine, Gail D'Onofrio opinions, "IV therapy is fraught with many complications that range from as simple as inflammation to the vein, to more complex complications, such as an infection that could occur. And then, very rarely, but an air embolus can occur with air going into the needle."
