Exercise Is Believed To Be An Effective Remedy For Neck Pain

(Medical-NewsWire.com, June 05, 2015 ) Orlando, Florida -- Neck pain is often associated with aging. It is believed to be caused by the degeneration of the cervical vertebrae, which is often a result of decades of holding the head. However, it seems that there is a remedy recommended for individuals who suffer from neck pain.

Exercise is believed to be an effective remedy for neck pain. There are many people who suffer from degenerating vertebrae and there are also those with cervical arthritis. The latter often takes place when the joints between the cervical vertebrae get damaged through injury associated with rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis.

"Neck arthritis usually causes patients to suffer from a range of symptoms such as headaches, stiffness, chronic pain, numbness, muscle weakness and loss of balance," said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O'Sullivan.

A trial conducted at the Punkaharju Rehabilitation Center in Finland focused on the efficacy of strength training in the neck in comparison to stretching or without any exercise at all. Researchers tried to determine whether or not exercise could provide pain relief regardless of what causes the pain. The participants were 180 women between the ages of 25 and 53 who worked in the office and experienced chronic neck pain.

According to the result, three-quarters of the women reported complete or considerable pain relief. This means that strength-training exercises were able to work best to provide neck pain relief. After one year, the neck pain and strength experienced by women still remained. There was also an improvement in their ability to look sideways, up and down 10 times better than the women in the control group.

Jari Ylinen, lead researcher, stated that stretching exercises should be combined with some activities that aim to strengthen the neck and shoulder muscles. The group that practiced strength-training used an elastic resistance band for one set of exercises. Experts suggest that patients should get their doctor's permission first before exercising at home.

For many arthritis patients, pain has become a normal part of their day. However, many of them resort to a wide variety of treatments just to improve their pain and overall condition. There are individuals who use pain relief drugs, while others resort to natural alternatives such as glucosamine supplements.

One of the major reasons why sufferers often use glucosamine and other natural alternatives is that this option is often believed to be not just effective, but also safer. The best glucosamine supplements on the market are those that contain turmeric, MSM and chondroitin (http://www.amazon.com/Glucosamine-Sulfate-Chondroitin-Supplement-Turmeric/dp/B00DUMO9X4/).
