Osteoarthritis Sufferers Believed To Be More Susceptible To Heart Disease

(Medical-NewsWire.com, July 07, 2015 ) Orlando, FL -- Nowadays, many people are beginning to practice healthy diets and lifestyles to improve their protection against a variety of diseases. Certain ailments, such as arthritic conditions, have potential comorbidities, and this is why people are resorting to measures that can significantly improve their immunity.

Osteoarthritis sufferers are believed to be more susceptible to heart disease. This arthritic condition can result in pain and discomfort, and reduce the quality of life of the sufferers. Heart disease, on the other hand, is a condition that can place sufferers into a life-threatening situation.

"Today, there are many natural alternatives used to fight a variety of ailments including arthritic conditions," said Divine Bounty spokesperson, Melissa Scott.

The Arthritis Care & Research journal published a Canadian study that revealed adults with hip or knee osteoarthritis are more likely to suffer from cardiovascular disease. The researchers also found that women and older men suffering from osteoarthritis are more susceptible to hospitalization than individuals who do not have the condition.

Sufferers who need joint replacement surgery tend to be more at risk of heart disease. However, they also revealed that they have not validated whether osteoarthritis is really the one causing the increased risk.

According to M. Mushfiqur Rahman, PhD, from the University of British Columbia, while autoimmune types of arthritis, such as rheumatoid arthritis, are associated with an increased risk of heart disease, little is known about its connection with osteoarthritis. Dr. Rahman suspects that the increased risk of heart disease among osteoarthritis sufferers may be due to factors such as chronic inflammation, obesity, and the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

NSAIDs and other pain relief drugs have been used by individuals with arthritic conditions to achieve pain relief, and improve their ability to function or do their daily routines. While these pharmaceutical drugs work for providing pain relief, they cause side effects. There is a chance that the increased risk of heart disease among osteoarthritis sufferers is due to the use of these drugs.

Many individuals with arthritic conditions are turning to the use of natural alternatives such as curcumin supplements. Curcumin is a powerful phytochemical found in an ancient, medicinal spice called turmeric, which is popular in Traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine.

Curcumin supplements are widely used by many arthritis sufferers. The natural alternative is even believed to be a safer and effective alternative to pharmaceutical drugs. Curcumin contains a variety of therapeutic properties, which include antioxidant, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties (http://www.amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-BioPerine-Extract-Vegetarian/dp/B00VSVKJ8I/).
