Science Validates Curcumin As Effective As 14 Conventional Medications

(Medical-NewsWire.com, July 09, 2015 ) Orlando, FL -- Nowadays, people are turning to natural alternatives to combat diseases. Curcumin is one of the natural remedies that is widely believed to have powerful therapeutic benefits. As a matter of fact, it has been widely studied by many renowned scientists and researchers over the past years.

Science validates curcumin to be as effective as 14 conventional medications. Curcumin is a phytochemical found in turmeric, which is an ancient, medicinal spice. This healing ingredient is popularized by the antioxidant, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties it contains.

According to scientific research, turmeric is associated with more than 600 potential therapeutic and preventive applications, as well as 175 distinct beneficial physiological effects. The therapeutic effects associated with curcumin were also a subject of more than 5600 peer-reviewed and published biomedical studies.

"Today, it is very easy to gain access to the healing effects of curcumin as there are many effective and safe supplements available in the market," said Divine Bounty spokesperson, Melissa Scott.

In a 2008 study, which was published in the Drugs in R & D journal, it was found that the curcuminoids from turmeric were as effective as a particular cholesterol medication. Curcumin was also found to be as effective as steroid medications, antidepressants, blood thinners, and anti-inflammatory drugs.

The Oncogene journal published a study which was conducted in 2004. It was found that curcumin was an effective alternative to anti-inflammatory and anti-proliferative activity drugs used against tumor cells. Curcumin is also compared favorably to chemotherapy and diabetes drugs.

In 2009, the journal Biochemistry and Biophysical Research Community investigated the effects of curcumin for the treatment of diabetes. It was found that the natural ingredient activates AMPK, which enhances glucose uptake. It was also believed to suppress gluconeogenic gene expression in hepatoma cells, which also results in the suppression of glucose production in the liver. The researchers added that curcumin was 500 to 100,000 times more potent that a diabetic drug in activating AMPK.

There were more than 54 studies that indicated curcumin could sensitize drug-resistant cancer cells and another 27 studies that found the natural ingredient to be effective for sensitizing multi-drug resistant cancer cells line.

Curcumin supplements can be purchased at local grocery stores or online. Experts recommend the use of curcumin supplements that also contain BioPerine. This black pepper extract is believed to significantly help increase nutrient absorption inside the body. Curcumin has low bioavailability, and when it is taken with BioPerine, it can be absorbed by the body more efficiently (www.amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-BioPerine-Extract-Vegetarian/dp/B00VSVKJ8I/).
