(EMAILWIRE.COM, March 21, 2012 ) Washington, DC -- An upcoming study to be published in the June print edition of Alcoholism: Clinical & Experimental Research indicates that those who experienced trauma in childhood may have an increased risk for alcohol dependence.
The study focused on nearly 200 participants, both male and female, who were undergoing inpatient detoxification, as well as treatment, for alcohol dependence. The research indicates that the individuals participating in the study, who were being treated for alcoholism, were to have likely experienced one or more incidents of trauma during their childhood.
“While there is a genetic correlation to addiction, there’s no doubt that physical environment and life experiences can have a profound affect on addiction as well,” begins a spokesperson for Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center. “As a matter of fact, the guilt and shame that follow negative life experiences can trigger and perpetuate the cycle of addiction. It’s important for a drug rehab facility to perform a thorough evaluation of an individual entering its program to determine if there are any factors driving their need and desire to use, or if there are any dual diagnoses that would affect the success of their addiction treatment program.”
Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment CenterÂ’s comprehensive drug addiction treatment program starts with a thorough assessment of each individual entering the facility. This thorough assessment provides the opportunity for the professional, licensed treatment team to develop a truly individualized treatment plan that is designed to give the greatest chance for long-term sobriety success.
