First Responders are Invaluable in Disaster Situations Says EMT Paramedic Training

(EMAILWIRE.COM, March 21, 2012 ) Clarkston, WA -- The ongoing occurrences, one after another, of disasters and tragedies make the role of a First Responder (FR) more valuable than ever before. Once limited to specifically trained personnel, emergency medical care and services were reliant on those with EMT and EMT paramedic training. Now First Responders are stepping up and becoming more and more priceless to their communities. Thus, considering such training is worth pursuing for those interested in obtaining such skills.

Many EMS (emergency medical services) agencies, forced to cut budgets and the hiring of EMS personnel, have been counting on volunteers. First Responders are stepping up to fill the needs around the country and their training and certification is especially valuable when communities suffer devastation, destruction and lost during and after a disaster event.

The First Responder is not only a trained EMS provider, but the individual if often just what the title states, First to Respond to the scene where emergency medical services are needed.

Training and certification allows the First Responder (FR) to provide vital care. The trained First Responder can (though not limited to); assess the situation, provide immediate medical help, remove victims from a dangerous situation and/or a vehicle, take vital signs, administer CPR, apply a neck brace, tourniquets or dressings, compresses, use an AED (Automated External Defibrillator), and stabilize victims for transportation to a hospital or medical facility. First Responders also check for trauma, shock, administer IVs, oxygen, and check for hemorrhaging.

All of these emergency medical services are taught in a First Responder EMT training course. After completion of the course, an individual certified as a FR can then advance to the next level of EMT training, EMT-Basic. Not only does this provide favorable employment opportunities, the training provided in First Responder certification courses are invaluable during times of disasters and catastrophes.

One never knows what events may put them in a situation to respond in such a way as to preform critical emergency services, even saving a life or lives. First Responder training is well worth pursuing for any individual capable of stepping in when emergency care is needed.
