Additional Federal Assistance Available To California Residents

(EMAILWIRE.COM, October 24, 2007 ) WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The head of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) today announced that greater federal disaster aid has been made available for the state of California to help people and communities recover from the effects of wildfires beginning on October 21, 2007, and continuing.FEMA Administrator David Paulison said the assistance was approved based on a review of the disaster’s impact on residents. The action makes federal funding available to affected individuals in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, Santa Barbara, and Ventura counties. The assistance was added to the Emergency Declaration issued yesterday by the President for the state of California.“We remain committed to delivering assistance wherever it's needed and to making sure that every qualified individual and family receives the help they need to get back on the road to recovery," said Paulison.The assistance, to be coordinated by FEMA, can include grants to help pay for temporary housing, home repairs and other serious disaster-related expenses. Residents who sustained losses in the designated counties can begin applying for assistance today by registering online at http://www.fema.gov or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY) for the hearing and speech impaired.
