(Medical-NewsWire.com, September 29, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA- A New Jersey Woman has been charged with reckless manslaughter after she attempted to use an illegal penis enlargement method in her makeshift surgical room. The woman injected silicone into the young man’s penis, which lead to complications resulting in the 22-year-old’s death.
The procedure was held in the woman’s apartment. The woman injected silicone into the tip of the young man’s penis without any seeming preemptive knowledge that the urethra is not a gateway to the general size of the penis.
Dr. Daniel Elliott, an associate professor of urology at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, said it was the first case he had heard of involving a silicone injection to the penis.
"If there were a legitimate method for penile lengthening, Johnson & Johnson or Pfizer would have brought it up and made billions and billions of dollars worldwide," Dr. Elliott said. "The fact that they don't means it does not exist."
Penis enlargement procedures have become more common in the recent decade, and so too has unlicensed practitioners without proper medical training. Besides liquid silicone, injections of paraffin, petroleum jelly, and hydrogel have been utilized for illegal procedures.
The woman posted a $75,000 bail but declined to comment on the incident.
