provide the cost-effective oral health programs for people in rural areas.
In recent years, surveys have shown that access to public dental services is the most needed for medical coverage for both children and adult Australians. The RFDS is working to support the Dental Services National Partnership Agreements and working on negotiations which would require state and territory governments to help create links between private providers and dental services, as well as non-profit organizations to help deliver rural and low income patients in need.
As it stands, the oral health of remote and rural people of Australia is considerably worse than those with better access to dental care in the metropolitan areas. According to Rochford, 65 percent of the nation’s land area which comprises of remote Australia, is not currently supported by a dentist.
