The pain relief cream, aptly called Pain Block, is a product of years of research on prolotherapy by Dr. Rosen, who himself is no stranger to pain.
Dr. Rosen was involved in a car accident in 1997 as he was responding to an emergency call. Suffering a neck injury and hospitalized for several days, he received conventional treatment involving physiotherapy and medications. While the physical therapy treatments produced relief, Dr. Rosen was surprised to find that the oral medication administered to him provided no relief at all. This led Dr. Rosen to pursue physiotherapy, chiropractic manipulation and electrical acupuncture to temporarily address the pain he was experiencing while he searched for other solutions.
"I had a whiplash injury to my neck from a motor vehicle accident. An orthopedist told me I would never be able to bend my neck backwards," he would later say. This quest brought Dr. Rosen to undergo prolotherapy treatment practiced by the Hackett-Hemwall group of New Zealand. Prolotherapy (short for "proliferation therapy") is basically a nonsurgical treatment that stimulates healing by enhancing the body's natural ability to reconstruct musculoskeletal tissues, allowing these to proliferate to repair injured and painful joint areas. Satisfied with the results provided by this nouvelle method, Dr. Rosen eventually specialized in prolotherapy and later conducted medical missions to countries such as Honduras and the Philippines.

This drove Dr. Rosen to expound on the idea of applying prolotherapy solutions subcutaneously using absorption principles through the skin.
