(Medical-NewsWire.com, August 19, 2013 ) Houston, Texas -- The idea that children of fat mothers die young, is shocking, but that fact is the finding of the latest research completed by experts from the Universities of Aberdeen and Edinburgh.
All mothers, and those who intend to have a baby will from now on have to think carefully about how their excess weight will potentially damage the lives of their offspring, if they conceive while obese.
That is, unless they achieve a weight reduction by diet and lifestyle improvements including exercise before they conceive. There were over 28,000 mothers, and almost 38,000 babies in the study which looked at data for births in Scotland from the years between 1950 and 1976.
Factors which could have distorted the results where carefully assessed and the authors say they were removed. These were factors such as the mother's age, socio-economic status and the sex of the child.

The authors have pointed out that these results are of great social concern especially now that other's have pointed out the high, and rising, rates of obesity throughout the developed world.
