Advancement Of The Treatment For Burns

(Medical-NewsWire.com, September 03, 2013 ) Roanoke, VA -- Infinity3 Medical Group is very pleased to assist in the advancement of Burn Care.
Before the 1970s, burn units in hospitals simply did not exist. Before then, there was no established protocol for BurnTreatments. Being admitted into a hospital with burns got meant you were treated on the medical/surgical floor of the local hospital. If by chance you lived in a larger city, they would have taken you directly to the Intensive Care Unit for your burn treatment. From there, the doctors and nurses would do the best they could to relieve the pain, but again, there were no guidelines to follow for treating burns.

Lactated Ringer's Solution was first recognized in 1950 to help prevent Hypovolemic shock in patients who had suffered burns. This solution most closely resembles the fluid within our bodies that makes up blood plasma. It is filled with electrolytes and proteins necessary to treat burns. Lactated ringer's solutions was used to treat the burns rather than regular saline because the saline lacked electrolytes.

When someone experiences a bad burn, their bodies normally become glucose intolerant because of the massive amounts of adrenaline flowing through their blood stream. This causes your kidneys to work harder in order to produce urine. A normal solution being used on a patient would dehydrate them, but Lactated ringers solution prevents dehydration. The same goes with simple saline - one would be adding chloride to the blood. This is the opposite of what we'd like for a burn patient. Over the past few decades, we have learned so much through trial and error about the best ways to treat burns.

Because we have been able to improve so much, the majority of burn care results in little to no scarring. The ultimate goal is to heal from the inside out though. It is vital to take care of the inner skin and cells before being too concerned with the outside scars that may or may not result. Though people who are burned will most likely never look 100% the same, we have certainly been able to cut down on the amount of scars, both physical and emotional that burns can leave.

Recovering from a burn takes both the mind and body working together to heal as quickly, painlessly, and effortlessly as possible. Because burns can be so painful not only immediately after the initial shock, but also for days later as the wound is healing, products such as Burn-FIX have been invented. This is a burn dressing infused with gel to help eliminate pain right away.

Before the hospitals had burn units, many people died simply from complications to their injuries. Burn care was not even a regularly practiced routine. Burn treatment was trial and error for an extremely long time before the techniques could be perfected. Today, we have normal protocol for burns. Seeing a patient make a full recovery from serious burns and then go on with their daily lives is a fairly new thing in our society thanks to Infinity3 Medical Group's Burn-FIX burn dressings and modernized care in hospitals.
