Low Levels Of Omega 3 Fatty Acid Found In Children With Below Average Reading Skills

Ballena Nelle explains why omega 3 fish oil is so important for overall health, cardio health and brain function

(Medical-NewsWire.com, September 23, 2013 ) Nevada, Las Vegas -- A team of researchers at Oxford University tested 493 children for levels of Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA), one of the primary omega-3 Essential Fatty Acids found in some fish oil. Children were selected based on below average national reading scores.

Researchers have already linked lower DHA levels with conditions such as ADHD and dysxlexia but wanted to investigate whether a link between DHA levels and below average cognitive performance extended to otherwise healthy children in the general population.

The study found that this test group had on average 2% DHA and .45% Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA), for a total of 2.45% compared to the adult recommended healthy level of 4%. The study did not measure the Omega-3 fatty acid levels in children with normal reading skills for comparison.

Almost 90% of the children in this test group ate fish less than two times per week and the remainder ate no fish at all.

The researchers concluded that there is a link between poorer cognitive performance in children and lower levels of DHA. This comes as no surprise to Ballena Nelle, a dietary supplement company.

"There have been over 18,000 clinical studies conducted on Omega-3 Essential Fatty Acids" Said Tess Mckay, Ballena Nelle's customer service representative. "DHA has long been recognized as vital for brain function because it is such a major component of the membranes in the cells of the brain. The results of this study should not come as any surprise."

Ballena Nelle Pharmaceutical Grade Omega-3 fish oil contains 300mg of pure DHA per capsule and 400mg of EPA, over two times the concentration found in many standard fish oil supplements sold in America.

The company uses anchovies and sardines from the Humbolt current of the southern Pacific, because they have the highest DHA and EPA levels and the lowest exposure to contaminants. The fish oil is then refined using a molecular distillation process that requires 10 pounds of raw fish oil to produce every pound of finished product. After third party testing to ensure it has been purified from mercury, PCBs and dioxins, it is shipped to the U.S. where it is manufactured into the highest quality softgel capsules.
