Drinking Green Tea Leads To Better Health In Old Age

(Medical-NewsWire.com, September 30, 2013 ) Tokyo, Japan -- Drinking green tea provides many health benefits. It can prevent a variety of cancers, treat stomach problems, and even make people more mentally alert. Now, studies are indicating vast differences in elderly subjects who are less frail and less likely to have functional disabilities than those who do not consume tea.

Research conducted in Japan found a lower risk of stroke, cognitive impairment, and osteoporosis. A direct connection between the health of elderly people and drinking green tea was found. As little as one cup per day seemed to matter. After patients were followed for three years, about 13% had functional disabilities. Better yet, only 7% did after consuming at least five cups per day.

While the subjects who drank tea were more likely to have better cognitive activity, eat healthier, and have more social support, the biological evidence points directly to the health benefits of compounds in the tea. Experts close to the study said green tea appears to be associated with preventing disabling diseases leading to frailty. Polyphenols were found to make people's legs stronger and lower the risk for depression.

The study also linked all of the findings to biology. Ailments which prevent one from performing daily tasks were seen less in tea drinkers. Researchers believe it does prevent or postpone the onset of functional disabilities, based on the findings. Green tea also plays a role in reducing the risk of Alzheimer's and cardiovascular diseases, while showing benefits in people with metabolic syndrome related to blood pressure, high sugar, and excess body fat.

Consistently promising study results and real life observations have contributed to the rising popularity of tea in the United States. In addition, many products have been released on the market to help make consuming tea easier. Those such as the Coolahoo Premium Tea Infuser, found on Amazon, allow one to make a drink in minutes from loose leaf tea.

Drinkers of loose leaf tea tea can experience enhanced flavoring and more nutrients due the quality and size of the tea leaf. This improves the experience and can lead to potential better health benefits as shown by the Japanese study. The Premium Tea Infuser is a simple product to use, change, and clean. It is just one example of how tea has influenced the U.S. market and modern pop culture.
