Turmeric Used As A Natural Remedy For Frozen Shoulder

(Medical-NewsWire.com, January 06, 2015 ) Portland, Oregon -- Otherwise known as adhesive capsulitis, frozen shoulder is a condition that results in the swelling of the articular shoulder capsule and restriction of mobility. Pain-killing drugs are usually used as a treatment for this condition. However, more and more frozen shoulder patients are relying on a natural alternative known as turmeric for relief.

According to research, turmeric contains properties that could potentially be helpful for those with frozen shoulder. Many individuals who suffer from severe stiffening and pain are using this ancient spice to find relief and regain mobility.

"Sufferers of frozen shoulder normally experience constant pain, especially during the night time. It restricts the movements in their shoulders and causes pain," said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O'Sullivan.

Statistics show that around 70% of frozen shoulder sufferers are female and are usually between the ages of 40 and 60 years. One alarming thing about the condition is that it is cannot be detected even with the use of an x-ray machine. The condition has three stages, the first being the painful stage, followed by the frozen stage, and then finally the thawing stage.

The prevalence of the condition is continually increasing, especially among diabetic patients. Individuals who suffer from thyroid issues and chronic inflammatory arthritis are also more likely to suffer from frozen shoulder.

There are many remedies adopted by sufferers of the condition aside from drugs. These include engaging in regular exercise and consuming turmeric. Some health professionals recommend the use of turmeric supplements twice a day, or the application of turmeric powder. Other remedies include hot or cold compression packs, physical therapy, shoulder manipulation, corticosteroid injections and shoulder arthroscopy.

Frozen shoulder patients who use turmeric have reported significant pain relief after taking the natural alternative. According to these patients, turmeric has been very helpful in allowing them to enjoy good quality sleep during the night. There were also those who reported increased shoulder mobility.

Turmeric is often made available through curcumin supplements. Curcumin is the spice's active ingredient and is purported to have anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and anti-viral properties. Many people find it very convenient and useful to use curcumin supplements mainly because they are easy to administer on a daily basis (http://www.amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-Complex-BioPerine-Bio-availability/dp/B00JA4TLTI).
