Nutra Mina Backs Australian Vitamin D Guidelines

Understanding Vitamin D Deficiency And Low Vitamin D Symptoms

(Medical-NewsWire.com, January 12, 2015 ) Hollywood, Florida -- It is not often that a business openly supports guidelines or recommendations that could potentially damage their revenue, but that is exactly what a Hollywood based vitamin D supplier has done.

While vitamin D is available in some types of food, such as liver, oily fish, and a variety of fortified products, sunlight remains the primary source of vitamin D for most of the world's population. Whenever your skin is exposed to the sun's ultraviolet rays, your body produces vitamin D, a hormone that plays a crucial role within the body.

The risk of developing skin cancer however, has resulted in most people trying to avoid the sun. This in turn has resulted in a serious vitamin D deficiency problem. Now the Australian authorities have stepped forward to encourage people to spend some time in the sun, but warn that people need to adjust the amount of time they spend in the sun according to several factors. These include seasonal changes, time of day, skin color and etc.

During a recent interview with Mr. Oliver Adams, a Nutra Mina spokesman, he had the following to say: "Vitamin D supplements are designed for people who are unable to spend time in the sun. Their culture, religion or their careers may prevent them from getting enough time in the sun. These are the people who can and do benefit from vitamin D3 supplements. If you are fortunate enough to live in a sunny country, and you have time to be outdoors, then of course you should try to get your vitamin D the way nature intended you to", he said.

"Like the Australians have said, a bit of caution can go a long way in helping people to avoid skin cancer. Don't get your vitamin D fix during the hottest hours of the day, and in summer, adjust your routine accordingly" said Mr. Adams.

Vitamin D deficiency has been connected to a number of serious illnesses, including certain types of cancer. Research has also shown that long term deficiency can contribute to mental health problems such as depression, Parkinson's disease and schizophrenia. In one recent study, pregnant rats where denied access to vitamin D throughout their pregnancies in order to assess what effect this would have on their offspring. The researchers then found that all the babies were born with brain abnormalities, very similar to the abnormalities present in the brains of people with Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease.

As more and more information is coming to light, people are becoming increasingly aware of vitamin D and the role it plays in their overall health. As a result, vitamin D supplements are now one of the most popular dietary supplements on the market. This has prompted healthcare professionals to warn against the dangers of overdosing even though the risk of doing so is extremely slim. Health authorities have also advised consumers to only purchase their dietary supplements from reliable suppliers.

In recent years, a number of randomly tested dietary supplements have been found to contain contaminated ingredients.
