Turmeric Considered One Of The Most Powerful Natural Anti-Inflammatory Alternatives Today

(Medical-NewsWire.com, January 30, 2015 ) Portland, Oregon -- Turmeric is popularized by the large number of therapeutic properties it is believed to contain. It is commonly used as a natural alternative or in conjunction with pharmaceutical drugs for a wide variety of medical conditions. In recent years, the ancient spice has gained the trust and confidence of many health experts and consumers alike.

Turmeric is now considered one of the most powerful options for natural pain relief today. It has long been used as an ancient remedy for a variety of health complaints. However, with modern science closely investigating the spice, researchers are discovering a multitude of potential therapeutic effects.

More than 4,000 studies have been conducted to explore or validate the therapeutic benefits of turmeric. New research suggests that turmeric may contain anti-inflammatory properties that may be useful in managing numerous inflammatory conditions.

The active ingredient of turmeric known as curcumin is believed to be the source of a majority of its therapeutic properties. Laboratory studies have identified a number of different molecules involved in inflammation that are inhibited by curcumin.

One study conducted by The University of Texas Anderson Cancer Center even suggests that curcumin may be a more potent anti-inflammatory than several commonly prescribed non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). While the study was conducted using cultured cells, the results are promising for future medical applications.

One of the things that make turmeric even more popular is that in addition to its anti-inflammatory effects, it has also been demonstrated to be safe for human consumption in doses as high as 8000mg per day. In human trials conducted by the National Taiwan University College of Medicine, curcumin was found to be not toxic to humans up to 8,000 mg per day when taken by mouth for 3 months.

According to health professionals, curcumin is generally poorly absorbed by the body. They suggest that those who want to use turmeric powder or curcumin supplements should ensure that they find a source that contains a black pepper extract. A black pepper extract has been shown to improve the efficiency of curcumin by increasing nutrient absorption in the body ( www.amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-Complex-BioPerine-Bio-availability/dp/B00JA4TLTI).
