Dr. Tobias Praises Research Showing That Omega-3 Fish Oil Can Boost Memory

(Medical-NewsWire.com, February 02, 2015 ) Trittau, Schleswig-Holstein -- Dr. Tobias Ihde, developer of the best-selling fish oil supplement on Amazon, has praised research showing that Omega-3 fish oils boost memory in adults of all ages.

The groundbreaking studies were conducted in countries as far afield as the United States, Canada, Israel and New Zealand, said Dr. Ihde.

Dr. Ihde's Dr. Tobias Optimum Omega 3 Fish Oil supplement is not only number one in the Amazon fish oil nutritional supplements category, but also has received 4.5 out of 5 stars from satisfied customers.

In an overview of studies American and Canadian scientists found that elderly people who had memory problems showed "significant improvements" after a 24-week course of taking omega-3 DHA compared with those given a placebo. The MIDAS study involved 485 healthy elderly people according to a report in the journal Prostaglandins Leukotrienes and Essential Fatty Acids.

Another study, which took place in Israel, was a 15-week, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial involving 131 elderly people who had complained of decreasing memory, but who did not suffer from dementia. Researchers evaluated the effects of just 100 mg a day of phosphatidylserine enriched with docasahexaenoic acid (PS-DHA) on their cognitive performance.

The patients who were given the PS-DHA "showed a significant improvement in memory (immediate recall)," says the study published in Dementia and Geriatric Cognitive Disorders.

And it's not just the elderly who can benefit, says Dr. Ihde. In a first-of-its-kind study, researchers at the University of Pittsburgh found that healthy young adults can improve their working memory by increasing their omega-3 fatty acids intake.

At the beginning and end of six months of supplementation with 2,000 mg a day of omega-3's men and women, aged between 18 and 25, were given a working memory test, known as "n-back test," which involves remembering a series of letters and numbers. Analysis at the end of the six month trial showed an improvement in working memory, according to the study published in PLOS One.

Another six-month trial, this one at Massey University in New Zealand and published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, also found improved memory for healthy young people who were given 1.16 grams of DHA per day.

Young women had greater improvements in episodic memory, while men experienced greater improvements in reaction times of working memory. In fact, reaction times for men who got DHA increased by 20 percent compared with men in the placebo group. Some 176 healthy adults aged between 18 and 45 took part in the randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind study and underwent a battery of computerized cognitive tests.

Dr. Tobias Ihde, CEO and president of DTI UG, said, "One study showed that elderly people experienced benefits roughly similar to having the learning and memory skills of someone three years younger. In another study blood levels of DHA doubled in people taking the supplements, and the higher a person's DHA level the better the score on the test. These are highly significant results."

Optimum Omega 3 contains three to five times more DHA and EPA than most other brands in the market. It is purified through one of the most sophisticated molecular distillation processes available and is enteric coated.

In addition to improving memory and brain health, in general, many studies have shown that Omega-3 fish oil supplements provide protection against heart disease and are beneficial for the joints, eyes and immune system, skin and hair.
