Infants, children, homeless, and elderly individuals are the groups more prone to hypothermia. This illness can lead to death. Nevertheless, it is preventable. The U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) revealed that hypothermia causes about 600 deaths per year. CDC recommends that elderly people are monitored during winter. Caregivers must be educated about the vulnerability of these patients to hypothermia, and about alternative sources of heat.
