A Study Revealed That NSAIDs Can Increase Risk Of Stroke And Heart Problems

(Medical-NewsWire.com, May 12, 2015 ) Orlando, Florida -- NSAIDs are popularly known as an effective pain reliever, especially among arthritis patients. As a matter of fact, they are widely preferred by many sufferers. However, using them carries certain disadvantages.

A study revealed that NSAIDs can increase the risk of stroke and heart problems. The use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs has been associated with the development or occurrence of a wide variety of side effects.

"There are NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen and celecoxib, that are popularly used as pain relief treatments for arthritis. These drugs are effective in providing pain relief and reducing inflammation suffered by arthritis patients," said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O'Sullivan.

According to the British Medical Journal, these medications also increase a person's risk of strokes and heart attacks. Doctors suggest that those who are already suffering from chronic conditions, such as obesity and arthritis, should pay attention to this finding as they may already be facing a higher risk of heart problems.

Peter Juni, M.D., Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine's head of the division of clinical epidemiology and biostatistics, stated that they have found alarmingly large signals for almost all NSAIDs. Increases involve strokes, myocardial infarctions and cardiovascular deaths. They were very surprised that the signals were so high.

Researchers reported that five percent of the doctor visits in the United States involved prescriptions for NSAIDs. There was even an NSAID called Vioxx that was pulled from the market due to its detrimental effects on cardiovascular health. It was found that the drug increased heart problems among patients.

A study conducted by Swiss researchers was aimed at determining whether or not there was also an increased risk when other common painkillers were used. The study involved 116,000 patients and medications such as: diclofenac, ibuprofen, naproxen and celecoxib. It was found that 554 individuals in 29 trials experienced heart attacks, 377 in 26 trials suffered from strokes, and 676 people in 28 trials died.

NSAIDs have long been known for the side effects they cause. This is why many arthritis patients are continually looking for other treatment options that can help them reduce the pain they are suffering from and improve their mobility. A popular and effective alternative today includes natural supplements.

Curcumin supplements are widely used by many arthritis sufferers who are looking for pain relief. What makes this natural remedy even more popular is that it may also help sufferers regain mobility in addition to reducing pain (http://www.amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-Complex-BioPerine-Bio-availability/dp/B00JA4TLTI).
