Meet Four Celebrities Struggling With Insomnia Issues And Tips For Getting A Better NightÂ’s Sleep

4 Tips on What to Do if you Can't Sleep

(Medical-NewsWire.com, May 12, 2015 ) Beaverton, Oregon -- It's not unusual to think that celebrities are immune to the array of health problems that seem to affect everyday people. The faces of Hollywood always look rested and rejuvenated, but reality paints a very different picture. Many A-list celebrities have opened-up and revealed that falling asleep and staying a sleep is a major problem for them. It seems that no one is immune to insomnia and other sleep disorders .

Statistics revealed by the National Sleep Foundation indicate that 60 percent of Americans aged between 13 and 64 suffer from some form of sleep problem almost every night. Furthermore, 43 percent of people rarely, if at all, get a good night's sleep on weeknights.

Celebrities are not immune to sleeping problems including famous Oscar-winner George Clooney. He recently revealed that he needs the TV on to fall asleep. "I'm able to numb out", said Clooney when the TV is running in the background. Yet, he still has problems staying asleep: "Without question, I wake up every night five times."

Passionate and often controversial pop diva Lady Gaga also struggles to get enough sleep: "My passion is so strong I can't sleep, sometimes for days on end." Gaga tries to relax more to induce sleep: "I lie in bed and try to pray and breathe. I have a very overactive mind." From one diva to another, Rihanna has also publically revealed her sleeping problems. Numerous times the singer has stated on Twitter that she can't sleep, especially during hectic tour schedules.

TV host Jimmy Kimmel recently revealed that he suffers from narcolepsy: "With narcolepsy, just the inside of your head is tired. It's like somebody's gently sitting on your brain. You have almost no focus. All you're thinking about is not falling asleep. I would doze off in meetings, watching TV, even driving." This is an extreme type of sleep disorder linked to the brain. It affects approximately 1 in every 3,000 people according to the National Institute of Health.

These stars, just like everyone else, are busy juggling hectic lifestyles with work, family, and social commitments. However, lack of sleep or problems with sleeping patterns can have serious health implications. Putting aside the overall sense of exhaustion, insufficient sleep can promote diabetes, obesity, and heart problems, among other issues.

There are some general tips for promoting better sleep such as turning off all electronic devices at least an hour before bed, keeping the bedroom dark, quiet, and cool, and avoiding stimulants such as caffeine close to bedtime. There are also some excellent natural supplements with ingredients such as melatonin, magnesium, and vitamin B6 that help the body to better regulate sleep cycles. Investing in preparing the body for sleep can make all the difference, and in many cases resolve sleeping disorders.
