Trauma Kit With Emergency Tourniquet Proving Invaluable To Climbers And Parkour Enthusiasts

(Medical-NewsWire.com, May 13, 2015 ) Clearwater, Florida -- Clearwater based First Aid Shoppe, makers of the ResQue 1st Trauma Kit With SWAT-Tourniquet, reports that the serious-injury SWAT-Tourniquet is finding a home with users who engage in extreme sports and moderate to intense outdoor, often remote, activities. The SWAT-Tourniquet is designed to stop and control severe bleeding, and is included in the ResQue 1st Trauma Kit With SWAT-Tourniquet.

"We've actually includes two great things," says First Aid Shoppe COO, Anna Loehwing. "The kit has the SWAT-Tourniquet, and also the QuikClot Advanced Clotting Sponge. This kit is designed for our most extreme users. When we designed it we had extreme sports enthusiasts in mind, and they're definitely picking it up in record numbers. Our theory was that it's nice to be able to bandage a cut, but if you're far from help and -- and this is the important part -- putting yourself in danger like these guys do, whether climbing or parkouring or mountain biking -- the list goes on -- anything where the risk of injury is high -- you need a kit like this that can handle a bad situation fast. You need it to have the right gear and our kit does."

According to Ms. Loehwing the SWAT-Tourniquet is designed for serious bleeding emergencies. It is a high-compression bandage made to stop arterial bleeding by clamping the artery off at the source. It works on arm or leg, fitting high into the groin or armpit area. SWAT stands for Stretch Wrap And Tuck. Ms. Loehwing reports it is a critical-injury tourniquet used by the military, law enforcement, EMT and other professionals. "With this tourniquet alone you could save your life," she says. "Having this kit equips you to stabilize the worst injuries until you can get help."

Ms. Loehwing says the other key component of the kit, QuikClot, is used by all four branches of the military. QuikClot is an Advanced Clotting Sponge that stops severe bleeding at the source. Used with the SWAT-Tourniquet, QuikClot can be used to stop other, serious blood loss that may not be tied to an artery. The two products are designed to work in tandem to stabilize the injured person.

The ResQue 1st Trauma Kit With SWAT-Tourniquet by First Aid Shoppe is available on Amazon.
