Police are lead to believe that this batch of heroin is also the cause of at least nine other individuals who suffered heroin overdose emergencies.

Pittsburgh police reported that they responded to over ten fatal and nonfatal suspected heroin overdose emergencies in a time span of 24 hours. Heroin users have been advised by Pittsburgh police to avoid bags stamped with the names "Chocolate", "Chicken/Waffle", and "Predator". Pittsburgh Police Commander RaShall Brackney stated "We understand this is a competitive market and drugs get strong and stronger, but heroin right now is very potent and very deadly". Narcotics agents stated that they cannot quite say what these stamped heroin bags have been laced with until the lab returns the test results.

Dr. Karen Hacker, director of the Allegheny County Health Department believes that city authorities are better prepared for any sudden outbreaks. In regards to trying to get to the bottom of the most recent heroin overdose epidemic, Dr. Hacker stated "We recognize that it's a critical situation, and we want to make sure that people are safe."
