A New York Toddler Was Reported To Have Cocaine and Opiates In Her System At Time of Death

(Medical-NewsWire.com, May 22, 2015 ) New York, NY.-- According to the autopsy results of 13-month-old Kayleigh Cassell, the toddler had cocaine and an opiate in her system when she died. It is still unknown as to how the drugs got inside of the toddler's system. The cause of Kayleigh's death has not yet been determined, however police are further investigating the incident to determine if drugs were the toddler's cause of death.

Kayleigh was found dead in the New York home owned by her mother's boyfriend, Joshua Ball. Investigators found small, empty envelopes that appeared to once contain drugs scattered throughout the bedroom where the family slept. Ball, Bennett, and Bennett's children were all in the house during the time of Kayleigh's, however no one seems to know what exactly happened to the baby girl during her time of death.

Rachel Ball, Kayleigh's mother claims she that the toddler had visible bruises on her neck as well as her face when she was found dead. She also stated that Kayleigh had been sick in the days leading up to her death.

Ball blames her boyfriend Joshua Bennett is to blame for her addiction to heroin and cocaine. Ball also admitted that her and Bennett mixed heroin and cocaine together, and had taken the dangerous mix a short time before Kayleigh's death.

Both Bennett and Ball have been arrested and are facing felony drug charges for the heroin and cocaine that were found in the house. Neither of the two have been charged in relation to Kayleigh's death.

Investigators are still trying to determine whether Kayleigh was administered the drugs intentionally or by accident. The child's death still remains a mystery.

An associate from Drug and Alcohol Rehab New York issued a statement urging drug addicts with children to seek help immediately. "Doing drugs is dangerous, however doing drugs in the presence of children or while caring for children is very dangerous. If you are experiencing a drug problem and it's causing you to neglect your child and/or place them under dangerous circumstances, seek professional help immediately.
