A Dutch study revealed that RA patients developed a brighter outlook now than they had 20 years ago. According to researchers, certain factors contribute to this improvement, such as the use of more aggressive medications and earlier diagnosis.

According to Cecile Overman, a doctoral candidate at Utrecht University, they wanted to see if the improved treatments that were used resulted in better psychological and physical health among RA patients.

The subjects were assessed for over 20 years and were given four years of treatment. They measured the level of inflammation, pain and swollen joints suffered by patients. Physical functioning, depression and anxiety were also measured.
