Dutch Study Revealed RA Patients Developed A Brighter Outlook Now Than 20 Years Ago

(Medical-NewsWire.com, June 02, 2015 ) Orlando, FL -- Rheumatoid Arthritis, or RA, is a condition that causes patients to suffer from a wide variety of symptoms. These symptoms are usually responsible for the depression and anxiety that patients normally experience. However, it seems that there are some improvements in the psychological condition of patients in the past decades.

A Dutch study revealed that RA patients developed a brighter outlook now than they had 20 years ago. According to researchers, certain factors contribute to this improvement, such as the use of more aggressive medications and earlier diagnosis.

"The findings of the study were published in the Arthritis Care & Research journal and it involved over 1,100 RA patients between 1990 and 2011," said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O'Sullivan.

According to Cecile Overman, a doctoral candidate at Utrecht University, they wanted to see if the improved treatments that were used resulted in better psychological and physical health among RA patients.

Rheumatoid arthritis takes place when the immune system of the body attacks the joint lining mistakenly, and this leads to body-wide inflammation. This damages the cartilage, bones and organs, such as the lungs and heart. The condition is also associated with anxiety and depression, which are typically among the many reasons why patients are physically inactive.

In the current study that involved female patients between the ages of 17 and 86 who were diagnosed with RA, it was found that physical ability and mood improved after the treatment. The subjects were assessed for over 20 years and were given four years of treatment. They measured the level of inflammation, pain and swollen joints suffered by patients. Physical functioning, depression and anxiety were also measured.

Today, there are quite a number of treatment options and organizations that offer support to arthritis patients. Albeit many patients are still suffering from pain and discomfort, there are also those that have found the remedies that work for them.

Many sufferers resort to drugs such as NSAIDs just to achieve pain relief. However, there are also individuals who use natural alternatives such as curcumin supplements. The popularity of natural alternatives has been increasing in recent years, mainly because they are considered to be more safe and effective than drugs. This is why many arthritis sufferers are relying on natural alternatives.

Curcumin is an active ingredient of a spice known as turmeric. It has high levels of antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Arthritis patients who use this particular supplement claimed that they have experienced significant pain relief and improved mobility (http://www.amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-Complex-BioPerine-Bio-availability/product-reviews/B00JA4TLTI/).
