Miami Drug Rehab Is Hopeful for MA New Drug Policy: Addicts Won't Be Arrested if They Turn in Heroin

(Medical-NewsWire.com, June 14, 2015 ) Miami, FL -- According to the Miami Herald, heroin and opiate addicts seeking refuge and treatment can find it at their local police department in Gloucester, Ma; those who willingly bring in their drug paraphernalia won't be taken to prison, but will instead be vetted to heroin addiction treatment. Those granted amnesty under the new policy will be the first to receive unprecedented treatment of this nature in the US. Gloucester Police Chief Leonard Campanello declares the new policy is geared at mitigating arrests and really getting to the bottom of heroin use disorders. By providing treatment and safety for those on the streets, and otherwise, the police department is taking a stab in the dark, offering addicts the chance for help without penalty, as long as they cooperate fully. Those with three or more drug charges are not eligible for the new policy.

Miami Drug Rehab is a drug and alcohol treatment center in Miami eagerly awaiting the outcome of the implementation of this new policy. The addiction treatment center in Miami asserts if the new MA policy goes well, there may be a heralding for similar policies across the nation. Miami Drug Rehab specialized in heroin rehab in Miami, and is taking a special interest in this policy as a means to mobilize its own community to play an active role in the treatment of addicts, as opposed to their traditional imprisonment.

An associate from the drug treatment facility in Miami comments, "Even if only one city in the entire US promotes a policy as radical as this may seem, its success could open up opportunities for other states to take action similarly. If our goal as a nation is not to imprison drug addicts, but make them stop using controlled substances, the only way we can achieve that is through treatment- and I think more and more policy makers are coming to understand that after decades of the War on Drugs.

"We're excited to see what type of traction this new policy yields. Additionally, Gloucester may very well be paving the way towards disbanding the harmful stigma around the disease of addiction, as they have ceased- or at least abated- the perception drug users must immediately go to prison. As this notion is put into practice, more may become open to the idea of treatment before incarceration.

"What's more, if this can work for heroin and opiate addicts, why not other addictive substances down the line too?"

As of June 1st there haven't been any reported cases of this new policy being utilized by heroin or opiate addicts, according to the Miami Herald. Miami Drug Rehab helps addicts recover from drug and alcohol use disorders, and provides specialized treatment for heroin and alcohol rehab in Miami. The drug treatment facility in Miami accepts most major insurances and provides the entire echelon of addiction treatment from its treatment center in South Florida.
