West Palm Beach Drug Rehab Comments On The Death Of A Grandmother Beaten In A Flakka-Fueled Rage

(Medical-NewsWire.com, June 27, 2015 ) West Palm Beach, FL -- According to Palm Beach County Medical Examiner records, an 82-year-old woman has died three months following an attack on her by a man high on flakka.

The attack happened on March 8 upon Louise Clinton opening her front door as she heard a knock. According to police, when Clinton opened the door 26-year-old Derren Morrison, of Palm Springs, stormed into the elderly woman's home and threw her across the floor. Clinton was left with cuts, fractured bones, and internal bleeding as a result of the attack, said Riviera Beach Police.

Upon arrival, police found Morrison on the street with blood smeared across both arms, according to the Sun Sentinel.

According to police reports, Morrison's sister revealed that her brother had been at his mother's house before the attack and was under the assumption that someone was trying to kill him. His sister also reported that Morrison dropped down into the fetal position before running down the street.

Police say that when they questioned Morrison , he said he was high on "flakka", a newly trending designer drug in Florida which causes severe hallucinations, psychosis, paranoia and other negative effects. According to police reports Morrison told the police that he had consumed "sweet liquor" and smoked flakka, which caused him to become paranoid and aggressive. Morrison claims that he does not remember the attack, according to the Sun Sentinel.

Morrison is now being faced with charges of attempted first degree murder, in addition to charges of burglary and failure to appear. According to police records, Morrison remains in Palm Beach County Jail.

Flakka has been related to a series of incidents in the South Florida region, where users have exhibited bizarre and occasional violent behavior.

A medical associate from West Palm Beach Drug Rehab comments "It still baffles me how people are continuing to use flakka despite hearing and seeing these bizarre incidents which have taken place all across the South Florida region. This innocent elderly woman had her life taken simply because she opened the door for a young man high on flakka, the most insane part about this particular incident is that he doesn't even remember. I'm pretty sure this young man isn't that malicious that he would consciously and brutally attack an elderly woman. We have absolutely got to get flakka off our streets. Another innocent person does not deserve to die or be injured as a result of this ludicrous drug."
