Fish Oil Is A Potentially Effective Natural Alternative For ADHD

(Medical-NewsWire.com, June 29, 2015 ) Orlando, FL -- According to the American Psychiatric Association in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5% of children suffer from ADHD, or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. The good news is that there seems to be a natural alternative that is believed to be helpful among individuals who suffer from ADHD.

Fish oil is a potentially effective natural alternative for ADHD. Further studies conducted in the United States claim that there are probably more than 5% of children who have ADHD. It is believed that a fish oil capsule taken on a daily basis could potentially help curb the symptoms of the disorder.

According to Paul Montgomery, DPhil, University of Oxford's researcher in the psychiatry department, reports that low levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids may potentially contribute to the development of dyslexia and ADHD. This suggestion was made after a study published in the Pediatrics was conducted.

In the study, schoolchildren were made to take fish oil supplements for about three months. It was found that they showed significant improvements in spelling, reading and behavior. The finding has led Montgomery to become a proponent of fish oil supplements for children.

According to statistics, children with parents who have a history of ADHD are 3 times more likely to have peer problems than those without ADHD history. Children with ADHD history are also believed to be 10 times more likely to have difficulties, which interfere with friendships.

Montgomery believes that getting the right amount of fish oil could be a bonus if done with dieting alone. Taking fish oil supplements, on the other hand, can be a great way to get the best dose. Montgomery also recommends the use of fish oil supplements with EPA and DHA.

Experts also state that the benefits of using fish oil for ADHD may take place only after three months. It can also be best to use the natural alternative together with antioxidant vitamins such as C and E. Those who prefer to obtain omega-3s from their diet should only consume oily wild ocean fish three times a week, and this means avoiding those that are farm-raised. It is believed that farm-raised fish are often low in omega-3 fatty acids.

It was also found that children with ADHD tend to be more susceptible to minor and major injuries. Even those that have high levels of attentional difficulties are at a greater risk of being involved in drinking and driving, traffic violations and motor vehicle crash (http://amazon.com/Omega-Fish-Oil-Supplement-Softgels/product-reviews/B00O8NS20K/).
