(Medical-NewsWire.com, July 14, 2015 ) Nashville, TN -- According to the Daily News Journal, the Rutherford County Sheriff's office revealed in a news release that more than $900 worth of illicit drugs including LSD and cocaine were recovered by Rutherford County Sheriff's deputies. the deputies had been assigned to patrol Interstate 24 before the Bonnaroo music festival in Manchester.
Deputies were able to recover 37 hits of LSD, nearly an ounce of cocaine, illegal mushrooms, THC oil and wax, and a multitude of prescription drugs, according to the news release. Sgt. Shawn Applegate shared that most of the drugs which had been recovered were for recreational use.
The deputies had been set in place to patrol traffic on I-24 to help prevent serious traffic crashes during the heavy traffic caused by those traveling to the music festival. According to Sheriff Robert Arnold, the presence of the deputies on the interstate helped prevent accidents and fatalities during the heavy flood of traffic.
According to the release, seven suspects had been arrested and deputies issued 97 citations in relation to drug violations, 125 warning violations, and four traffic citations. The release also revealed that the K-9's and their handlers conducted 40 various scans of vehicles, and a few scans produced positive alerts of illegal drugs.
"Our deputies did an outstanding job in making safety a top priority," Sheriff Arnold said in the release.
