Drug Rehab Philadelphia Comments On ADHD Drugs Be3ing Used To Treat Menopause Symptoms

(Medical-NewsWire.com, July 30, 2015 ) West Palm Beach, FL -- According to CBS Philly, ADHD drugs are being used to treat symptoms such as impaired memory and focus. New research from Penn Medicine found that Vynase, a drug primarily used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), can also help improve cognitive issue linked to menopause.

Leigh Costigan credits Vynase for helping her with remembering things, especially during the planning of her wedding. "I was forgetting things that I would have never forgot before and my attention to detail was slipping. It became very frustrating," says Costigan.

Costigan isn't alone in her experience, according to reports millions of women experience challenges with their memory, focus, and organization in relation to going through menopause. These symptoms typically show up in a woman's mid-40's in addition to other symptoms such as hot flashes and insomnia.

In the research study, 32 menopausal women underwent computer memory tests as a means ti measure the effectiveness of Vynase in comparison to a placebo. 59-year-old Costigan was one of the study's participants.

In regards to the study's findings, Dr. Neill Epperson, director of The Penn Center for Behavioral Wellness says "For some women we saw a large improvement and for some others it was a more modest improvement ... Many of the women that came into our study were women that were executives in their professional lives or nurses, doctors, people that really depend on their noggin, depend on their ability to focus, multitask and particularly attention to detail."

Dr. Epperson also added that Vynase promotes the release of dopamine which results in offsetting the decline of estrogen caused by menopause as a means to help improve cognitive functioning.

Costigan continued taking the drug even after the study ended, stating that she had great results from taking the pill.

A medical associate from Drug Rehab Philadelphia comments "Although some may view women taking ADHD drugs for reasons outside of having ADHD as drug misuse, I think using this drug to treat menopause symptoms could be a great idea. I'm sure the women who would use the drug have no intentions on abusing the drug. Hopefully with further research there will either be a creation of a drug specific to Vynase but designed specifically for menopausal women or maybe the FDA will approve the use of Vynase for treating menopause symptoms. I believe that with further research that researchers could discover something groundbreaking in treating women suffering from the symptoms of menopause."
