(Medical-NewsWire.com, July 30, 2015 ) Florida -- According to My News 13, the Victim Service Center of Central Florida has reported a significant spike in reports of rape and sexual abuse within the past month. It is alleged that the date rape drug and drugs similar to it have been used in a multitude of rape and sexual abuse cases which have taken place in Central Florida.
The summer has been deemed a busy season for rape investigations, however a the rate of the ongoing reported rape incidents, the record could be broken for the most reported rape cases at the center.
Staff members at the Victim Service Center have noticed a trend linking the rape-related cases together; most of the victims are aged between 18 and 24, and drugs such as the date rape drug have played a major role in many of the recent cases.
The Victim Service Center encourages anyone who believes they may have been victimized to come forward, preferably as soon as possible. Note that the center does respect victim's right to wait to come forward, however being as though these types of drugs don't stay in the system long it's important to come forward as soon as possible.
"These drugs can only stay in your system as short of a time period as eight and usually not more than 24 hours. So it's critical that you come to us so that we can do an analysis," said Lui Damiani, the Executive Director of Victim Service Center Central Florida.
According to reports, Rohypnol, GHB, sleep aid, and muscle relaxants are the most commonly used drugs to unknowingly drug rape victims, alcohol is also a commonly used substance. Generally the drugs being used are without color or taste and usually lack smell, however can still cause nausea, vomiting, disorientation, fatigue, and loss of memory.
It is suggested that in many cases these drugs are being put into victims' drinks, therefore the Victime Service Center is encouraging people to speak up if they see anyone doing something suspicious and never leave drinks unattended.

It's even more sad to learn that there has been a spike of cases of rape and sexual assault in Central Florida. the word needs to be spread so that more people, especially young women can remain aware when they're out at bars and parties & etc. I also know it can be hard for rape victims to come forward and speak about the traumatizing incident, however I agree that they should come forward as soon as possible because drugs such as the date rape drug do not stay in the system that long. i am hopeful that we can all come together to support rape victims and fight back against rapists."
