London-based researchers make a big move in liver failure via stem cell therapy

(Medical-NewsWire.com, August 03, 2015 ) London, UK-- Recent research published in the Journal "Nature Cell Biology" shows that stem cells can power up the cell restoration process into mice with critically damaged livers. This research can revolutionize the medical field by eliminating the need of liver transplant, still the scientist are waiting for trials in human beings.

Over the following months, the stem cells impelled in different parts of the liver to regenerate, enhancing the structure and functioning of the animal's organs.

The liver is usually very great at recuperating itself. As, stem cells contains cells known as hepatocytes which are capable of self-restoration taking after cell-damage. On the other hand, these cells are not capable for self-generation following severe injury, for example, that created by conditions like intense liver damage and cirrhosis.

Likewise, hepatocytes are difficult to develop under lab conditions, which constrains their potential for transplant.

This is the reason being why the group chose to figure out whether or not liver stem cells - called HPCs (hepatic progenitor cells) - can regenerate liver tissue.

Hepatic Progenitor cells are much simpler to develop in the laboratory, and they have the adaptability to convert into hepatocytes along with other sorts of liver cells.

The team of researchers believe that this will lead to cell-transplant as treatment for the liver failure rather than organ transplant, if the results they accomplished with HPCs into the mice can also be replicated with the human HPCs.

In the long run, the researchers plan to accomplish the same outcomes by using medications that fortify stem cells inside the patient to recover the damaged liver tissues. Which means it is wise to store the stem cells in advance if any serious health abnormalities appears in the future.
