Study Reveals Turmeric Could Potentially Help Fight Life-Threatening Oral And Cervical Problems

(Medical-NewsWire.com, August 17, 2015 ) Orlando, FL -- There are many preventable diseases that can eventually become fatal ailments, if not properly addressed. This is why many people are improving their diet and lifestyle to increase their immunity against a variety of medical conditions. The use of natural supplements, such as turmeric, has also become very popular nowadays.

A study reveals that turmeric could potentially help fight life-threatening oral and cervical problems. Turmeric is a very popular spice in Indian cuisine. However, it is not just a spice that adds flavor and color to dishes, but also one that offers therapeutic benefits.

"Turmeric contains a powerful phytochemical called curcumin, which is popularized by its antioxidant, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties," said Divine Bounty spokesperson, Melissa Scott.

According to the study published in E Cancer Medical Science, curcumin has the potential ability to suppress the activity of human papilloma virus, which is associated with the fatal disease cancer.

Dr. Alok Mishra from Emory University states that turmeric has long been believed to have antiviral and anti-cancer properties. It is an ideal remedy to improve oral health. A sexually transmitted virus called HPV has no cure and can lead to cervical and oral cancer. Antioxidants are believed to help control the virus.

Mishra and his research team found that turmeric has succeeded in slowing down the HPV expression in the cells infected by oral cancer. This happened when the spice was able to down regulate the cellular transcription factor levels of NF-KB and AP-1. The researchers suggest that curcumin has the potential to manage the extent of HPV infection.

Since HPV-related cases are on the rise, it can be helpful to consider the measures that can potentially help reduce one's risk of the condition. The antioxidant properties of curcumin have been widely studied, and are believed to help fight a range of conditions from arthritis to Alzheimer's disease. What makes this natural ingredient even more interesting is that it is believed to slow down the development of certain types of cancers such as those that affect the breasts, stomach, intestines, skin, esophagus, and mouth.

People who want to take advantage of the therapeutic benefits of the spice may consider using curcumin supplements. While curcumin is loaded with a range of therapeutic properties, it has low bioavailability. This means its nutrients are not efficiently delivered inside the body. The good news is that there are curcumin supplements with a bioavailability enhancing ingredient called BioPerine, which is a black pepper extract (www.amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-BioPerine-Extract-Vegetarian/dp/B00VSVKJ8I).
