Drug and Alcohol Rehab New Hampshire Comments on Hillary Clinton's Comments on Drug Abuse

(Medical-NewsWire.com, August 28, 2015 ) New Hampshire -- According to Wall Street Journal, during a forum in New Hampshire this week, Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton pledged to elevate the issue of substance abuse, saying that she would like to hear from all the people on the front lines as she develops policies to help people dealing with addiction or mental illness.

Clinton allowed many of the attendees at the event to speak up as an array of stakeholders weighed in with ideas regarding how to combat the issue of opiate addiction in New Hampshire and ways to improve public policy in regards to these issues. Several attendees also shared their stories of addiction, one man shared a story of how he was convicted of murder after a cocaine-induced blackout.

The former secretary of state has dispatched her team of advisers to speak with medical professionals and substance abuse advocates as her campaign developed policy proposals within the upcoming months. Clinton suggests that mental-health issues and substance abuse issues should be treated as health issues. She also suggested that more needs to be done to prevent people with serious mental health issues from obtaining guns and she also made a vow to improve background checks. "I'm going back at the universal background check," she said, urging gun owners to stand with her. Going to school or a movie should not put people at risk from someone who should not have a gun, she said.

As the leading Democratic presidential candidate, Clinton says substance abuse has emerged as a pervasive issues as she's campaigned across the county.

An associate from Drug and Alcohol Rehab New Hampshire comments "I think it's very admirable that Hillary Clinton is shedding light not only on the issue of mental health, but also substance abuse issues. I am especially of her taking the initiative to ensure guns are not getting into the hands of the mentally ill because sadly today when these mass shootings are happening, it's always suggested that the shooter was suffering from a mental illness. As a nation, we cannot continue to overlook these issues, as Mrs. Clinton said, both mental health issues and substance abuse issues should be treated as health issues."
