Knee Surgery Is Believed To Be Beneficial To Low-Income Arthritis Sufferers

(Medical-NewsWire.com, August 28, 2015 ) Orlando, FL -- Arthritis causes many disadvantages in various aspects of the life of sufferers. It causes pain and discomfort that hinders them from doing their daily routines, working and staying financially stable. There are many solutions that arthritis sufferers often resort to, to improve the overall quality of their life, and one is a surgical procedure.

Knee surgery is believed to be beneficial to low-income arthritis sufferers. Having the condition is already a big burden, and for low-income individuals, paying for medical expenses can be too much to handle. This is especially true for individuals whose working abilities have become limited due to the pain caused by the condition.

According to research featured in the annual meeting of the American College of Rheumatology, individuals who earned below $35,000 every year and underwent knee replacements expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the procedure. Sufferers reported pain reduction and improvement in mobility better than those who had high income.

"To experience some improvements in pain and mobility can be a life-changing event for low-income arthritis sufferers," said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O'Sullivan.

Researchers say that the finding of the study is surprising. According to them, low-income earners who underwent knee surgery are more likely to be confronted with reduced access to healthcare services. There are also comorbidities that may complicate the treatment, and they may be exposed from.

The associate professor of medicine from the University of Alabama, Jasvinder Singh, M.D., expresses his surprise to the fact that sufferers experienced some improvements after the procedure. According to him, such socioeconomic status and having low income are associated with the risk of worse health outcomes.

Researchers reviewed data from the Mayo Clinic Total Joint registry, and they found that individuals who received the lowest income were less susceptible to experiencing moderate to severe pain after undergoing a knee replacement surgery. The sufferers who earned around $45,000 or below were reported to be doing well compared to those who made more money.

It is believed that since low income arthritis sufferers do not have the means to get the surgery anytime, they are forced to wait until they get money. The waiting time often results in increased limited function and the worsening of the knee pain. When they are able to get the surgery, the improvements they experience tend to become more noticeable and significant than those who underwent the surgery earlier.

Arthritis sufferers nowadays are resorting to other methods to improve their overall condition. There are many who don't want a surgery and prefer to use natural alternatives such as curcumin supplements. Curcumin is an ingredient of the medicinal spice called turmeric, and is popularized by its antibacterial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties (www.amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-Complex-BioPerine-Bio-availability/dp/B00JA4TLTI/)
