Orange County Creates Task Force to Combat Heroin Resurgence, Drug Rehab Orlando Comments

(Medical-NewsWire.com, August 31, 2015 ) Orlando, FL -- The Orlando Sentinel reports Mayor Teresa Jacobs- in conjunction with the Orange County Sheriff's department and Sheriff Jerry Demings- announced on August 17th- a new plan to reduce the recent resurgence of heroin use in Orange County and neighboring Osceola County.

The announcement comes after a seven month attempt to renovate a stretch of Semoran Blvd. known as "Heroin Alley." In that span of time the Orange County Sheriff's office has made 13 arrests and issued 12 warrants after undercover officers successfully purchased heroin, cocaine, and pills 25 times along the strip between Colonial Drive and Curry Ford Road. The plan includes 20 leaders in the community who will devise educational programs with a focus towards students in order to prevent use amongst younger generations. Medical, law, and educational leaders will work together to design the aggressive public awareness campaign.

The increase of heroin use has been attributed to the 2012 closure of multiple doctor's offices that were exposed to be pill mills supplying drug dealers in Orange and Osceola counties, the Orlando Sentinel reports. The neighboring counties lead Florida in heroin-related deaths at 90 in 2014. By comparison Miami-Dade county, which is home to 1.1 million more residents has half of the heroin-related deaths. Drug rehab centers in Orlando work to combat these numbers and rehabilitate those struggling with addiction, but preventive measures are essential to the ultimate success of the city's anti-drug programs.

An associate of Drug Rehab Orlando comments, "Orange County's commitment to battling the heroin resurgence is commendable if vague. As with other diseases, prevention is the preferable method of treatment to any type of substance dependence, but especially so with extremely dangerous drugs like heroin and Flakka.Through educating children and the general public about the dangers of drug use and abuse, Orlando can erase the stigma of drug addiction and reveal the reality of the disease. Drug Rehab Orlando offers heroin rehabilitation in Orlando as well as other drug rehabilitation programs for those struggling with the grip of addiction. However, drug rehab in Orlando is reactive rather than proactive."

The attentive staff and fine-tailored programs offered through the facility enhance the overall quality of life for each patient, allowing them to regain control of their lives.
