Research Reveals Turmeric Has The Potential To Heal Lichen Planus

(Medical-NewsWire.com, September 15, 2015 ) Orlando, FL -- Lichen Planus is a rash-skin disease that affects the hands, mouth, face, genitals, and feet. There are topical ointments and pharmaceutical drugs used for the condition. However, there are also solutions available for individuals who want to remedy the disease through natural means.

Research reveals turmeric has the potential to heal Lichen Planus. Turmeric is one of the healing spices believed to help fight a range of diseases, including the preventable and fatal ones. This spice has long been used not just a kitchen ingredient, but also as a medicine.

"Turmeric contains curcumin, which is a phytochemical with therapeutic substances such as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antibacterial properties," said Divine Bounty spokesperson, Melissa Scott.

According to research, turmeric could potentially be a natural remedy for lichen planus, which is a relatively common disease. Turmeric has been a subject of many high quality scientific studies that have tried to investigate the healing effects of natural ingredients for skin diseases.

The National Institutes of Health states that lichen planus may be associated with immune or allergic reactions. However, its root cause has not yet been identified. Middle-aged adults are often affected by the embarrassing symptoms of the condition.

In the new study featured in the National Journal of Maxillofacial Surgery, it was revealed that turmeric ointment could help sufferers achieve relief from lichen planus. The researchers from the King George's University analyzed 10 participants with lichen planus for three months. All of the subjects suffered from sores and a rash in and around their mouths.

They were made to apply turmeric ointment to the sores two times a day for three months. Throughout the three-month period, the researchers kept track of the appearance of rashes and pain. After the study period, it was found that nine out of the ten participants were clinically healed. The tenth, on the other hand, had marked clinical improvement.

It was also found that the noticeable improvements appeared after just one week of ointment use. The participants experienced a mild improvement in that single week. Within the trial period, none of the participants reported redness, pain, or ulcerations.

The researchers were astounded with the healing effects of turmeric. Today, people who want to take advantage of its medicinal benefits may combine turmeric powder with olive oil or water to make a paste or ointment. There are also curcumin supplements available for those who want to ingest all of its possible therapeutic benefits (http://amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-BioPerine-Extract-Vegetarian/dp/B00VSVKJ8I).
