New Research Reveals Turmeric Is Useful For Fighting Lung Disease

(Medical-NewsWire.com, September 30, 2015 ) Orlando, FL -- Medicinal spices, such as turmeric, have increasingly been used as a natural remedy for a range of conditions. This natural ingredient has been used for thousands of years, and now, its therapeutic benefits are a popular subject of many research studies.

New research reveals turmeric is useful for fighting lung disease. There are many ailments that affect the lungs and are caused by the toxins and harmful chemicals from food and the environment. Increased intake of healthy foods, such as spices, is believed to increase one's immunity against a rage of conditions.
"The therapeutic effects of turmeric are believed to come from its polyphenol called curcumin, which has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antibacterial properties," said Divine Bounty spokesperson, Melissa Scott.
The Journal of Experimental Medicine and Biology researchers reveal that the pharmaceutical drugs nowadays have not been shown to effectively treat lung conditions. These lung conditions are believed to be caused by exposure to airborne pollutants, mineral dusts, chemotherapy, and cigarette smoke.

In some animal-based studies, curcumin was used to fight lung fibrosis. It was found that curcumin was able to reduce lung injury and fibrosis, which were caused by chemotherapeutic drugs, radiation, and toxicants.

The researchers also suggest that curcumin has the potential to offer protection against allergic asthma, acute lung injury, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and acute lung injury. It is believed that curcumin's ability to play the protective role is due to its therapeutic action on the prevention of oxidative stress and inflammation.

The Molecular Nutritional and Food researchers stated that anti-inflammatory medicines, which are used for COPD, have failed to effectively fight the condition due to their inability to attenuate the effects of oxidation.

Curcumin is believed to scavenge free radicals, such as nitric oxide and superoxide anion, directly. It is believed to modulate the significant signaling pathways as well as down-regulate the pro-inflammatory mediators expression.

This phytochemical is also thought to have the ability to up-regulate the gene expression that's beneficial in the lungs. Thus, the researchers suggest that curcumin could potentially be a therapeutic agent for fighting chronic lung diseases.

Nowadays, it can be extremely easy to take advantage of therapeutic benefits that curcumin could potentially offer. There are supplements available that contain high concentrations of curcumin. Curcumin has low bioavailability but consumers can do something about this by choosing the right curcumin supplement. Most of the best curcumin supplements contain a bioavailability enhancing ingredient called BioPerine, which is believed to help increase curcumin absorption inside the body (http://www.amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-BioPerine-Pepper-Extract/dp/B00VSVKJ8I/).
