Menstrual cups are medical grade silicone bell shaped cups that are designed to sit inside a woman's vagina to catch menstrual fluid rather than absorb it. The cup is inserted like a tampon, emptied when full (holds two to three times more than a super plus tampon) and reused after each menstrual cycle. The cups tend to last for years if well looked after and are a viable alternative to the conventional pads and tampons.
It is estimated that the average woman in America will create a total of 62,415 pounds of menstrual waste in her lifetime.Though not for everyone, menstrual cups tend to have a cult like following and are growing in popularity in America and also internationally.
In a survey in 2011 Time Magazine found that 91% of all women who tried a menstrual cup said they would keep using it and would recommend it to family and friends.There are a number of women who are still adverse to the whole idea, but the tide is slowly turning as more and more, especially younger women are looking for better alternatives to tampons and pads.
Since the MenstroCup's launch on the 25th of September 2015 the cup has broken into the top 100 best sellers on Amazon under its respective category and seems to be spear heading forward.
