Report Suggests Omega-3 Fatty Acids Provide Widespread Health Benefits In Dogs

(Medical-NewsWire.com, October 21, 2015 ) Orlando, FL -- Today, more and more people are becoming conscious not just with their well-being, but also with their pet's health. There are many things that pet owners can do to nourish their furry family members with the love and health care they need. Natural supplements are even used by an increasing number of dog lovers just to satisfy the nutritional needs of their pets.

In a report titled "Therapeutic use of fish oils in companion animals", Dr. John Bauer explored many of the purported benefits of supplementing fish oils in dogs. Published in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association in 2011, the report summarized the findings of dozens of studies to conclude that evidence had accumulated regarding beneficial responses with dietary inclusion of omega-3 fatty acids.

Omega-3 fatty acids have long been believed to be a source of widespread health benefits in dogs. These healthy fats can be found in fish types such as tuna, sardines, halibut and herring. They can also be consumed through the use of fish oil supplements. Fish oil supplements have long been believed to be helpful for individuals suffering from cardiovascular ailments.

"What makes omega-3 fats more interesting is that they are highly beneficial and safe both for humans and dogs," said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O'Sullivan.

There are health enhancement pills manufactured by large companies for pets. However, these products typically contain chemicals, which are detrimental to the health of dogs. Experts believe that omega-3 fats can help dogs achieve a healthy coat and skin. Dogs that consume omega-3 fats are believed to be less likely to suffer from shedding, and are more likely to have glistening and healthy skin and coats.

The omega-3 fats in fish oil are also believed to help provide moisture to the dry and irritated skin of dogs. The natural ingredient has the strong potential to reduce inflammation associated with allergies, inflammatory bowel disease, and arthritis. The widespread health benefits of the natural ingredient include some improvements in the mental development of puppies as well as in immune system health. Puppies that take omega-3s are believed to have an improved cognitive function once they get older.

There are many other health benefits associated with the use of omega-3s. It is believed to help lower blood pressure, promote weight loss (especially in overweight dogs), and provide support for pets with heart or kidney disease. It is even found to be very useful for reducing the risk of cardiovascular problems in dogs as well as in helping them become more energetic.

Experts recommend that pet owners provide a dose of 20 mg of EPA per lb body weight for their dogs. If a pet has digestive disorder or some joint issues, pet owners are urged to choose fish oil supplements that contain higher amounts of EPA. However, experts do warn that it can take weeks before seeing noticeable improvements, such as improved digestion and mobility and reduced anxiety (www.amazon.com/Omega-Fish-Oil-Supplement-Softgels/dp/B00O8NS20K).
