Experts Suggest Surgery Not An Immediate Option For Back Pain

(Medical-NewsWire.com, October 22, 2015 ) Orlando, FL -- Back pain is one of the undesirable things that many people experience at least once in their lives. This condition forces sufferers to seek the help of a healthcare provider or simply miss social events or work. While surgery may seem an excellent remedy for the condition, experts recommend that sufferers think twice about resorting to it mindlessly.

Surgery is not an immediate option for back pain. Procedures and prescription drugs are usually the popular remedies that sufferers turn to. Unfortunately, only a few of them truly work.

According to Roger Chou, M.D., Oregon Health and Science University's primary care physician, the history of managing lower back pain has demonstrated that a series of treatments have been considered as a miracle cure. While these treatments provide sufferers with hope, they are ineffective. Many sufferers still see their doctors due to agonizing pain.

Healthcare providers often take measures such as sending the sufferers to an MRI scan for the purpose of diagnosing the problem. The problem is that discomfort in many people is often not caused by wear and tear.

There are other measures sufferers can resort to before having a surgery. According to the Arthritis Foundation, they may engage in exercise routines such as aerobic exercises, resistance training, and stretching. In a review study, it was found that stretching and strengthening exercises have helped improve low back pain by 19 points.

While engaging in physical activities is helpful, experts also suggest that sufferers should avoid jerking motions or abrupt twisting, which could potentially worsen back pain. They should also avoid doing resistance training. They may, however, spend 2 and a half hours walking or doing aerobic exercise or strength training every week.

There are also effective and safe natural remedies, such as turmeric, that are believed to be helpful for fighting pain and inflammation. Turmeric is a medicinal spice that is believed to help reduce pain, especially among arthritis sufferers. It is even believed to be a safe alternative to pain relief medications.

Turmeric contains a powerful healing phytochemical called curcumin. This polyphenol contains anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antioxidant properties. There are curcumin supplements available for individuals who want to take advantage of the pain relieving effects thought to be offered by the spice (http://www.amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-BioPerine-Pepper-Extract/dp/B00VSVKJ8I).
