The American Heart Association Strongly Recommends Increased Consumption Of Omega-3 Fatty Acids

(Medical-NewsWire.com, November 09, 2015 ) Orlando, FL -- Cardiovascular ailments are continually claiming the lives of many people from around the world. Many types of this condition are preventable by healthy diets and exercise. People only need to eat healthy foods to reduce their risk of these conditions.

The American Heart Association strongly recommends increased consumption of omega-3 fatty acids. These fats can be found in fatty fish such as herring, lake trout, mackerel, sardines, salmon, and albacore tuna. According to experts, these fish types should be eaten twice a week. People can also use fish oil supplements.

"Omega-3 fatty acids are essential fats that are necessary for the maintenance of human health. Since they cannot be naturally produced by body, they have to be consumed through food or supplementation," said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O'Sullivan.

Omega-3s can also be obtained from nut oils, some plants, algae and krills. They play a major role in brain function, normal growth and development. Omega-3s have also become a very popular natural remedy for reducing the risk of heart disease.

According to the University of Maryland Medical Center website, omega-3 fats could significantly help reduce inflammation. Their use is also associated with a reduction in the risk of chronic diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and arthritis. A study published in the British Medical Journal in 2002 even found that infants who did not obtain sufficient omega-3 fatty acids during pregnancy were at greater risk of preterm delivery and low birth weight.

The symptoms of deficiency of omega-3 fatty acids can include poor memory, heart problems, fatigue, dry skin, depression, mood swings, and poor circulation.

Experts believe that it is imperative to have the right ratio of omega-3 and omega-6 fats in the diet. It is important to remember that omega-3 fats can help reduce inflammation, while most omega-3 fatty acids seem to promote inflammation. It is believed to be very helpful to consume omega-3 fatty acids to achieve optimum health.

The American diet is believed to contain 14 to 25 times more omega-6 fatty acids, and this is not at all nutritionally balanced. On the other hand, the Mediterranean diet has a healthier balance between the two omega-3 fats. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, individuals who follow the Mediterranean diet are less likely to develop heart disease.

Today, there are many fish oil supplements available on the market. The most recommended ones are those that come in capsules with enteric coating. This enteric coating works by eliminating the nasty aftertaste common in many fish oil products. The coating is also believed to work by increasing the absorption of omega-3 fatty acids inside the body (amazon.com/Omega-Fish-Oil-Supplement-Softgels/dp/B00O8NS20K/).
