For all the dog lovers out there, there's a good news!! The new studies show that kids who spent time with their pups experience less anxiety and stress. Scientists recently set out to find whether having dogs as pets can help prevent obesity. But they came with another interesting discovery that kids with dogs in their homes really experienced less stress and depression.

The researchers from Bassett Medical Center in NewYork conducted their study with 643 children aged 4-10 over an 18 month period and found that among 58% of children with a dog at home, 12% tested positive on a screening test for anxiety. While the rest 21% of children who didn't have dogs at home didn't show any improvements or any signs of positivity.
In a study published by the CDC, the researchers explained how all this works chemically. They say “Interacting with a friendly dog also reduces cortisol levels, most likely through oxytocin release, which lessens physiologic responses to stress”.
The study also noted that some kids even value the benefits they get from their friendships with dogs more than those received from other human relationships. From a study conducted among children aged 7 to 8, it was found that they valued pets higher than humans as providers of comfort and self esteem and as confidants.
Now, this is not just limited to children alone. Even the pet owners get benefited from their dogs. They are less likely to suffer from anxiety, depression and stress than non-pet owners.
