While in general the cholesterol levels are high among children who are obese, the level of HDL cholesterol (known to be the Good cholesterol) is noted to be low on over 14% of the children. over 33% of children had a low level of HDL cholesterol as compared to only 7% of kids the normal weight.
The research also notes that girls with high cholesterol levels stand at 9% in obese kids while boys tend to be at 6% and comparatively lesser.
The studies clearly states that the cholesterol levels in kids could be a threat to their health with heart conditions and promote long term cardiovascular problems throughout the adulthood.
The American academy of Pediatrics has recommended that children between ages 9 and 11 should have their cholesterol levels checked.
Cholesterol levels in kids can be controlled and even eliminated with lifestyle changes. healthy eating and regular workouts could bring the children to normal health. Activities should be entertained among kids, between the age of 8 and 19.
Statin and other drugs which could create a long term effect on kids are effective for cholesterol but should not be used unless there is no other alternative. Lifestyle changes are best and are recommended by most doctors. Holistic remedies for cholesterol could be an option too.
