"Just For Men" Class Action Lawsuit Sought For Alleged Claims Of Burns, Blisters, And Other Severe Injuries

(Medical-NewsWire.com, February 03, 2016 ) New York, NY -- “Just For Men” Lawsuit Info: A Missouri man has filed a proposed “Just For Men” class action lawsuit to represent all consumers who bought “Just For Men” hair dye products in the state of Missouri. In the complaint filed in the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Missouri on January 25, the plaintiff asks the court to certify the “Just For Men” lawsuit as a class action against “Just For Men” manufacturer and marketers, Combe Incorporated, Combe Products, Inc., Combe Manufacturing, Inc., and/or Combe International LTD.

The “Just For Men” lawsuit plaintiff, who used Just For Men in August 2014, contends that each proposed class member has common questions of law and fact that include whether the defendants deceived consumers, their doctors and the medical community by hiding the true effectiveness and safety of “Just For Men” products. The potential “Just For Men” class action accuses the defendants of failing to adequately address and warn of the potential health risks associated with Just For Men, and minimizing and downplaying those risks when they are mentioned. Additionally, the “Just For Men” lawsuit complaint purports that defendants knew or should have known that “Just For Men” products create an unnecessary risk of burns, scarring, allergic reactions, anaphylactic shock, skin depigmentation, and other severe injuries with prolonged use. (Case No. 4:16-cv-00097)

Consumers nationwide who have used Just For Men products may be entitled to compensation from the manufacturer for the injuries and severe allergic reactions suffered from this hair dye. What Is Just For Men?

“Just For Men” is a popular hair and beard dye product that has been on the market since 1987. However, “Just For Men” lawsuit complaints have been mounting in recent years regarding severe allergic reactions to the products. Many men have told the watchdog group, Consumer Affairs, that they had used “Just For Men” products for years but now have allergic reactions that include chemical burns, skin rashes, sores, itching and swelling. The men indicated that the company must have changed the ingredients in the product. A report published by the NewsTribune.com found some men required emergency care, treatment with steroids, and other medical intervention after suffering injuries from using a Just For Men dye.

Allergic Reactions To “Just For Men” And P-Phenylenediamine

P-Phenylenediamine, or PPD, is a chemical substance that is widely used in permanent hair dye products. Reactions to this chemical can range from mild dermatitis to severe reddening and swelling of the scalp and the face, according to DermNet NZ. Eyelids may completely close and the allergic contact dermatitis reaction may become widespread. Hairdressers, film directors, and others who work with PPD may develop dermatitis on their hands.

According to the potential “Just For Men” class-action lawsuit, PPD is one of five substances listed as a “strong sensitizer” by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. In 2006, PPD was named allergen of the year by the American Contact Dermatitis Society. Studies show particular populations have high sensitivity rates to PPD. For instance, a 2001 Cleveland Clinic study found that African American men and women had a PPD sensitization rate of 10.6 percent compared to 4.5 percent of Caucasians. The study further indicated that the sensitization rate of PPD in African American men was 21.2 percent compared to 4.2 in Caucasians. The plaintiff claims that he and other potential class members are not aware of any study or clinical trial the defendants performed “related to the injury rate and/or safety of any of their Just For Men products.”
