• Start by boosting Vitamin C by eating more fruit and vegetables or start taking a good quality supplement to boost intake, the daily requirement is 75mg to 90mg. Citrus fruits like oranges and grapefruit and their juices, as well as red and green pepper and kiwifruit, have a lot of vitamin C. As do broccoli, strawberries, cantaloupe, baked potatoes, and tomatoes. Switch fizzy drinks to fresh orange, cranberry juice etc.
• Drink more water, instead of reaching for another tea or coffee (both dehydrate) reach for the water bottle. Two liters is the daily recommended amount. Monitor intake by starting with a new 2 liter bottle each day.
• Turn the heating down, a lower temperature keeps bacteria at bay and avoids moving between overheated rooms and cold rooms which affects the body's ability to regulate internal temperatures.
• Get into a bedtime routine, going to bed and getting up at the same time every morning builds better sleeping patterns. A good quality sleep of 8 hours every night is vital to good health.
• Washing hands regularly throughout the day stops the spread of viruses and bacteria especially when sharing facilities with other people. Keep a bacterial hand wash handy when soap and water isn't available.
