Indoor air pollution is a growing concern for many. In many households and other public enclosed areas, it is more polluted than the outside scenario. The threat of pollution is more inside as there are so many items that are famous for chemical emission and there also are those items that we do not know that are associated with air pollution. The main causes of Indoor air pollution are the items or objects that emit the pollutants into the air and the ventilation of the area.
The causes of indoor air pollution
The pollutants: The well known common indoor air pollutants are cigarette smoke, mold and mildew spores, dust, pet dander, and the chemicals from the various sources such as burners, stove, aerosol products, cleaning agents, cosmetics, pesticides, furniture, wall painting, insulation items, paneling, and smoke from the wood burning. Many of these could be unavoidable but there are options to switch these items with natural products to reduce the indoor air pollution.
Ventilation: All the chemicals and particles that arise from the above mentioned items could be lingering the air for longer and accumulate over the period of time is decisive on the ventilation of the area or home. With proper ventilation, the indoor air quality could be rectified or improved naturally. With ventilation one could also reduce the pressure on the air purifier and make it easier to clean the air with its help.
The unexpected sources of indoor air pollution
1. Teflon fumes: Cooking in non-stick pans are easier for cleaning purposes. The hidden danger here is the fumes that arise from these heated Teflon coated pans that are coated with the polytertrafluoroethylene. These fumes arising from them could cause flu like symptoms in humans and is also capable of killing a bird. Even more dangerous is the scratched surfaces of them.
2. Craft supplies: The favorite time pass of the little ones could also be a problem that jeopardizes the indoor air quality. Though there are many non-toxic crayons and other art supplies but none could be completely safe. The crayons that are made with paraffin wax could be a threat. They are as dangerous as the candles when they are recycled to make crayon candles. Never do that.
3. Inkjets are another surprising threat to the indoor air quality. The chemicals used in the inkjets could cause serious health issues and even infertility. Inkjets that use dye based colors are the problematic ones. They can be chemically unstable and cause air pollution.
4. Laundry detergents and scented dryer sheets could also be harmful and cause indoor air pollution. These, especially when scented could emit many chemicals. Given that the vent of the dryer and the washer are nor monitored makes thing worse and get these chemicals into the air. the chemicals coming out of these machines include the harmful benzene, acetaldehyde and many more.
